Stress and anxiety – psychotherapy and hypnotherapy
For some people stress and anxiety is triggered by events like interviews, flying or sports competitions. Other people might develop stress and anxiety as a result of the increasingly fast-paced world we live in. Whatever the cause, it can have a significant impact on your health and wellbeing, presenting itself as anxiety related to particular situations (such as social occasions), panic attacks, phobias or a more general sense of anxiety. I use various techniques, including psychotherapy and hypnotherapy, to gently help people who are feeling overwhelmed by worries and stress them to overcome those feelings and make positive changes to a calmer life.
Pregnancy, hypnobirthing and postnatal support
Pregnancy brings with it a real mix of emotions, some anxieties, and a lot of waiting(!). Asking for support at this time can be a helpful way to cope and to prepare yourself for your child’s arrival. Discovering you’re going to be a parent can be exciting and daunting at the same time, and that’s OK!
The Easibirthing® method aims to enable you to have the birth you want, feeling calm, confident and in control. In private sessions (with or without your partner), we’ll teach you techniques like self-hypnosis for pain management, relaxation, visualisation and breathing exercises, all of which will help to prepare your mind and body for a natural birth. The Easibirthing® course is made up of five sessions, and includes course materials and MP3s.
Becoming a parent is often seen as a time of joy and, for some people, that’s absolutely true. But it’s also tough, and for many people it can be overwhelming. Parenthood rearranges our priorities and the way we view the world, upends our pre-parenthood routines, lifestyle and sleep patterns and, for mums, changes us physically. I work with new parents through private sessions, helping you to adjust to those changes and feel calmer in your new role.
“I used all of the visualisation and breathing techniques during the birth of my son and had a drug free, intervention free delivery. I can’t recommend Natasha highly enough.” (Jemma)
As well as private sessions for new parents, I’m delighted to be a part of the 6 Week Social team, and to facilitate the Hertford Butterflies Community Group, providing support for mums who are struggling with motherhood, feeling isolated or anxious.
Lifestyle and wellbeing – unhelpful habits and behaviours
Struggles with self-image, body-confidence, weight or alcohol are common in today’s society. Often we battle to stick to a strict regime which might give short term results, but no long-term change. I find it’s more effective to examine the way you think about yourself and your lifestyle, with kindness. Together we’ll tackle unhelpful habits and behaviours right at their roots so that they don’t grow back over time.
“I have lost over two stone in weight, with no faddy diets and no calorie counting. I have successfully changed the way I eat… I could not have achieved this without Natasha’s help.” (Carla)
Fertility and IVF support
Whether you’re looking for support through fertility difficulties or more specifically through the IVF process, I can help. Counselling and psychotherapy can play an important part in helping you to understand and process your emotions during an often stressful time.
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends that couples going through IVF should be offered counselling before, during and after treatment, whatever the outcome, by someone who isn’t directly involved in managing the treatment.
Coaching for confidence, performance and public speaking
With my own career starting in the world of acting, performing and teaching, I know only too well how confidence can get in the way of performing at your best. Speaking or performing in front of other people can be uncomfortable, daunting or terrifying, whether that’s during a meeting, at a social event (best man speech anyone?!), delivering presentations to corporate audiences or performing in the arts. Coaching can help you to overcome those nerves, find ways to prepare, and develop strategies for dealing with those feelings while you are in the thick of the situation, so that you feel calmer and more in control.
Adolescent and student support (from 11 years old)
Growing up isn’t easy. It’s a time when we’re learning about ourselves and the world around us, trying to make sense of our increasing independence, and our constantly shifting relationships with parents, carers, family and friends. Add to that the fact that it’s a time when you’re faced with hormones, exams and important decisions for the future, and it’s no wonder that I work with a lot of students! I can help young people from the age of 11 who are struggling with anxiety, OCD, eating disorders and unhelpful relationships with food, exam stress and more.
NB: I ask that parents attend the initial consultation along with their child, and we’ll then discuss the support that would suit their child best.
